Hey Elina, A 333 will take a long time to convert files, I was running a 233 and it would take anywhere from 19 to 26 hours. I then built a tbird 750 and it takes 5 to 9 hours depending on the movie. Best place to find upgrade parts is pricewatch. I built the 750 from them for about 400 a few months ago.

Why are the more advanced users on VCDHelp.com still recommending encoding the movie in its entirety then cutting in half (for standard VCD)? Cutting, using any freeware available, has always caused sych problems on disc 2, for the most part.
In SmartRipper, you can select the amount of chapters that would have a running time of 74/80 minutes or less, depending on the chapterization. You would then just rip the VOB chapters in order according to play time. You can have the program save the chapters as individual files, or as one large file, whichever you prefer. I always use SmartRipper this way, and my audio sync issues disappeared immediately ...
... that is, until I started using SSRC to downsample the audio. I didn't play back a week's worth of encodes until just now, only to discover SSRC went off the deep end. I'm spending my Sunday morning re-encoding audio! Whoopee. -
Firstly, cutting is easy and I don't get sync problems... and I've cut hundreds of VCD standard MPEG-1 files.
Secondly, SmartRipper doesn't work well if you use FlaskMPEG which has it's own IFO parser -- which is important if you use subtitles.
Thirdly, doing it the way your described (which is a good way mind you) has its own complications which I don't usually like to inflict on a newbie. Anybody should in time work out that you could do it that way anyway.
Regards.
