newbie needs helping in converting avi

hi all

i have an 180 meg avi which i would like to convert to a bigger file size,
im curious as to what format would be best?
and in me increasing the file size would the quality of the image increase?
i have a ts avi whose quality is not v.good and i basically want to know
how i can increase the quality.

i do have virtual dub...but im a noob at using it.

I don't know much about all of this but I do know that you will never ever exceed the quality of the original source file. I would suggest find better sources for your movies..like on IRC. Using all of the file serach programs leads to people ruining the quality for sake of saving there bandwidth by lowering the resolution and in turn lowering file size. I am having some problems converting from DivX to SVCD and if I don't figure out the problem within a week I swear I am going to d/l only SVCD's so I don't have to deal with .avi 2 .mpg conversion :).
