    I have a Region 1 DVD-709 player from Samsung, and if I hack it to lay Region 2 DVDs, what will happen? Will it play in black and white because of it being a PAL disc?

    Probably it will not play at all because R1 players usually do not support PAL at all. Color or b/w depends mainly on your TV (unless you have an RGB connection).
