  1. This is possibly a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway.
Can a video file such as MPEG/MPEG2 be converted and burned in DVD format onto a CD so it can be played in a DVD player which does not support VCD or SVCD.

    I seriously doubt it.

  3. I've been wondering that myself for quite a while now. Maybe it is possible, but who knows. I've thought about searching these forums before but have convinced myself that the only answer I'll find is no, and besides, too lazy, I mean, what would I search for: 'DVD' 'burn' 'cd' ? Jeez, theres no telling how many topics would show up, anyhow, I'm sure there will be a resounding no, but I'm going to try anyways and see where the snag is.

    Hi,

My "research" suggests that it is possible depending on the player (as always for non-standard stuff)... but you'll only get 10-20 minutes each depending on bitrate. DVD at 4700 MB divided by a 700MB CD = 7 CDs per DVD which holds maybe 105 minutes of "Hollywood quality" movie (based on the "Matrix") which means maybe 15 minutes per CD. Which means changing disks six or more times to watch a movie... what a hassle.

Not only that, but I like to pick reasonable places to break a movie into disks (e.g. at a scene change) and this gets really hard, or wasteful, the more disks I need.

  6. OK I realise that DVD file split to cd would need 7+ discs but what I'm suggesting is a 750mb mpeg written to a cd but in a format that would make the player think that it was a dvd.
Perhaps it is the type of disc that the player recognises (layering, sectors or whatever) so it could not "see" a cd as a dvd?

    You'll have to experiment.

  8. Yes, it is possible. I captured about 20 minutes of a movie using Ulead DVDMovie Factory. I then authored it using the same program as a dvd, and burned it as a dvd, using the cd burner and a cdrw. It was recognized as a dvd on my sampo dve620 and my sony carousel dvd player. However, the funny part of all this, is that when I tried to do the opposite, burn a vcd onto a dvd, it told me that the medium was incoreect upon placing a dvd r in the dvd burner.

  10. I'm sure this is an old topic by now, but I think what the question was actually was if the VCD or SVCD could be changed to be read by a dvd player by just changing the Header of the burned MPEG. It sounds reasonable, but I dont know much, I suppose it would still have to be authored and what not. But it would be just like changing the header of a SVCD to VCD for increased compability- if you want to call it that- personally I don't know of any software capable of doing that, later
