  1. Has anybody tried the blank DVD-R media found on eBay, like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2036124831

I know from the documantation I got with the DVR-104, only TDK, Maxell, Mitsui, Panasonic, Pioneer and a few more brands are guarantied to burn at 2X in the DVR-104. I also see a 100 pack TDK for $185, which should be a good price. Any feedback on TDK DVD-R's?

  3. I had several problems with TDK Band DVD-Rs on my Pioneer A03.

When CompUSA started to carry DVD-R media in my area (Princeton NJ) I grabbed 5 of each brand the carried (Memorex, TDK, Imation, and CompUSA Brands.)

    Every Memorex DVD was perfect.
1 of the CompUSA DVDs had a burn error.
2 of the TDK DVDs had errors.
All 5 of the Imation DVDs had errors.

I was using Prassi PrimoDVD 2.0 to burn my DVDs.
I usually have it set to Burn & then verify data.
Every DVD burned fine, but during the verify is where I had reported errors.

The only other brand to give me so many burn errors were the www.cdrecordable.com brand DVDs.

My personal favorite generic brand DVDs come from either www.meritline.com or www.esbuy.com.
I have never had any errors in the several hundred blanks I have burned from either of their store brand DVDs.

  4. Hm, the Memorex are good..

Also, the ESBuy disks, they have both a gold and a silver version. What version did you use? The ESBuy disks have a good price. Do you know who makes the disks for them? ( I got my DVR-104 from ESBuy)

  6. I think, at least for me, what determines if a disk is good or bad is how it plays back in my DVD player, NOT how it burns. I almost never get an error when burning, it burns every disk just fine. The BIG question is, will it play back in my DVD player? The common problems are:

    * Tons of pixellation throughout the DVD-R
    * Only the first half of the DVD-R plays, and then stops.
    * The DVD-R is not recognized at all in the DVD player.
    * The disk plays perfect in my DVD player, but doesn't play at all in another player.

So, after reading reviews on DVD-R disks, it seems that the player does make a role in judging the quality of DVD-R's.

Also, I wonder what the problem is with disks that will not play. Bad dye, bad pre-grove stamping, poor reflecting material, wrong physical dimentions...?
