  1. Hi,
Can I make XSVCD with the following components

    Capture : Pinnacle STudio DV
    Encode : Pinnacle Studion DV
Burninig : Nero 5.5 or Ulead DVD Movie factory.

I tried the XSVCD sample in the vcdhelp in my Apex AD1500 it plays well.
I encoded a pinnacle project to MPEG2 bitrate 3000kb/s and audio MPEG2 layer. I burned it with Nero 5.5 in non compliance mode.

The disc refused to play in the player.I am quite new to all this though I understand the tech details a liitle I am stuck.

Can anybody help me in guiding thru this

    Ransow,

Try lowering the bitrate to standard SVCD - 2520 bit/sec. At this bitrate though you may get blocks on high movement - try a standard SVCD (not XSVCD) resolution at 2520 bit/sec and the results should be better.

XSVCD really needs a higher bitrate to sustain data to the higher resolution but it sounds like your DVD player can't handle this.

I use a Pinnacle DV500 Capture -> TMPGenc SVCD std template + High Quality motion encode to Nero and it looks fantastic and will play on the majority of players as its SVCD complient (or as standard as you can get anyway).

  3. That sounds neat I will try that, but still I have one doubt.
The sample file in the vcdhelp for XSVCD has been mentioned as 720x480 at 3000 kb/s and i could burn the image provided using nero and play it in my player. It plays it without any problem .
If I try the same resolution and rate with my encoding in pinnacle and burn it the player refuses to play it.
I did some more digging and found the following.

The vcdhelp guide to XSVCD tells the std as Video MPEG2 and Audio MPEG1 layer.
I found in the Studio DV program when I select MPEG2 for Video the Audio is automatically selected as 44.1 khz MPEG2 layer is this a problem.

If I want to create a XSVCD disc similar to the sample image given by the site what steps I need to do.I do not have much experience in encoding and authoring except for using the standard encoding and authoring provided in Pinnacle and Nero.

    Thanks in advance
