Well, I downloaded a few divx movies from sharereactor. the downloaded files are AVI's...and DIVX. A few of them are JUST barely over 700 MB. One movie is 702 MB and another is 701 MB....just enough that they will not burn to a 700 MB cd.

So I was thinking I could CROP off a few seconds and make it fit. I have used TMPGEnc and Virtual Dub quite a bit, and have tried to figure out how to use either of these programs to accomplish what I want. I got close but I didnt get exactly the right thing. The AVI that resulted from using Virtual Dub was alot worse quality, even thoguh I only chopped off 10 seconds. It was also 150 MB smaller.

All I think I need to do is crop a bit off the AVI and RE-Save it, using all the original formatting and DIVX encoding and Audio encoding. Is there a way to do that?

    Thanks. [/u]

You can burn a little more then 700MB on an 80min/700MB cd in Mode1 if im not mistakin a 700 meg disk can hold 703.1Megs try burnin the original file and also you could overburn if it doesn't fit

I don't know i could be wrong if i am im sorry

Thanks for the reply. I did a tiny bit more research and immediatley found the guide I needed.

    http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/join-split-avi.htm

Basically I had tried doing this before, but took teh Projected File Size reported by Virtual Dub a little too seriously.

Apparently, it goes down as it saves.

Anyway. I chopped off the last 10 seconds re saved it as an AVI an got a 699 MB file.

    :P

I really am a newb, huh?

  6. A good trick is 2 make an ISO or IMG file of it using cd creater 5 platinum then burn directly from the ISO. This will force CD Creater 2 "overburn" the data on the CD. Most 700MB cds can hold about 703-708megs.
