  1. Pioneer DVD-R 104, Apex AD-1500. Encoding mpeg with TMPGenc, authoring with DVDit.

For DVD's under 4.7G I can RIP (SmartRipper) and burn (Nero 5564 or Prasi PrimoDVD) the VIDEO_TS file. The resulting DVD-R plays fine on my AD1500, with all FR/FF speeds working perfectly.

For larger DVDs if I RIP and then convert to mpeg using DVD2AVI/TMPGenc, the resulting DVD-R plays fine and FF 2X works but FR (at any speed) or FF above 2X causes the AD1500 to freeze - the picture locks up. Pressing next/previous scene or menu button do work and it resumes normal playback again.

I have done SVCDs using SmartRipper/DVD2AVI/TMPGenc and not only do these play fine but all FR/FF speeds work fine on them.

This DVD-R problem occured with the original firmware and still occurs after I upgraded to the Australian MV-free, Region free firmware.

Does anyone have insight into this or has anyone else seen it?

  2. I only experience this with test DVD-RW runs. Most players don't like RW's much since they are harder to read. When I burn the final product to either Pioneer or Apple disks, it goes away. What disks are you using?

  3. I have tried a number of disks: Meritline, Smartdisk etc. I haven't tried the Sony ones yet. I think I'll buy some Apple disks at Fry's and see if it makes any difference. The thing is that when I clone a commercial DVD everything works fine on Meritline/Smartdisk. This only happens on disks I have authored. I am going to try authoring with SpruceUp or Ulead. DVDit isn't that great.
