  1. Alot of us know the simple and complex topics of video. Capturing, Editing, Converting, Authoring. These are things many people either don't care about, don't want to learn, or would rather pay someone to do. How many people here try to make money off video related topics? Examples: I'll archive your 8mm on VCD! I'll edit your home video! I'll film Jimmy's B-Day party and edit it! I know there are professional companies, but they focus on big biz, not so much on home video or little things. Plus, we could do it for cheap. Do you guys think there is a market for this? Would you pay? Are there any other money making ventures related to video capture/edit/burn on an ametuer scale?

    Thanks

  2. Nope there's no market. People will start doing it themselves once they find out how cheaply they can do it. Why pay someoen else to do it?

Also with setop dvd recorders coming out, there is no way someone is going to hand over Joes Bday party to put on Vcd.

Just went over to Circuit City to see the Phillips new DVD+R/W setop recorder. Under $700 on sale now. By Xmas, should be $500

  3. Well, for one a purchase of $500 plus is still a major purchase, especially for an un-needed and sparsingly used (in their case) product. Plus, I think output to VHS would be best. Not all people have a DVD player yet (VHS still has a much wider audience), and VHS still offers good quality (it is not like they need the quality of a hollywood movie) Even with low prices, there are people who don't know computers and couldn't if they tried. I really do think there is a market. Any other opinions?

  4. 500$ is too much. if I wanted someone to edit my video, i'd rather pay them 30$ and be done with it..

    CMP1223,

you could probably do something with your idea, the hardest part would be getting your first customer. once you do that and they tell their friends about how great your work is then you're in business.

  5. Your right nfl2k2. I might put a sort of "sample video" together to show them exaclty what they can expect (video effect, titles, transitions, edits) I wouldn't make a living off this or anything, just some side money.

  7. Hehe... Nothing like a good hit and run ad on Ebay selling illegal vcd's. Great way to make money, sold a guy a copy of centropy spiderman for $50 when it cost me all of what, $2. Would have kept going too but got an email from MPAA telling me to 'please stop it', hehe.

  8. Ah, the art of being above the law. While I too could sell illegal VCDs, I thinking more of the "legal" road, until I move out of my parents house Hey jeex, do you give your customers a quality product, or just some sh1t that you pull off the net. Not that it matters, just taking some notes...

  10. Yeah.... when you've shifted a few hundred copies you can even start payrolling the MPAA and pay for armed guards to protect your vcd fortress.

  11. Hey, this wouldn't be illegal. I'll put together a real "professional" looking auction telling them how hey too can get any movie anytime! Then i'll send them a link to eDonkey or Kazaa. hahahahhahahahahahahah

I don't think i'll have repeat costumers, but who cares!

  12. Hmm... Interesting legal point. I remember some guy did something similar to what you are proposing but instead of offering them a download link he offered them a site where they could buy them on bootleg dvd.

  13. How the *uck do these guys get away with this :-

www.silverdvd.co.uk this is the biggest piss take I've ever seen in the U.K. The site even looks like it took a little longer than 5 minutes to set up.

  15. dang! those silverdvd.co.uk guys must make a bunch of ez cash! I used to own the market for Audio CD's at my school a couple years ago, until everyone's new computer started coming with a cd-rw drive! I sell a couple games and vcd's every once in a while now. I'd like to start up a site like silverdvd, except for the fact that i'd probably get caught in like 10 min.! lol. I wonder how they keep from getting arrested and shutdown. I know the feds know about them, but how come they havent been shutdown yet?

  16. How bodgy are they hehe, looks like a geocities page it is that crap. I was going to lauch my own illegal movie site because I was sick of having to relist my auctions on ebay but now because of my ISP putting in a 5 gig download limit it kinda stops me from downloading the quantity of movies that I need to run it properly. I was thinking of starting like a cooperative with other Australian users so say each of us could download like 2 movies a month then sell them through a website but still deciding whether it would work.
