DVD writer speeds?

Is it true that there are going to be new pioneer 4x dvd writers due out in May/June? I ask as they have only relaesed the A04 recently!
if so how much and where can we find info , besides in here ofcourse. i am just about to purchase, but if this is true than i may wait a little longer, can anyone confirm any of this please!

What doesn't anyone like to reply, or is it no one simply knows?
any info would be good. i am going to purchase but is it to much to ask for a little info on these new burners?
tell me where to find and i will do the rest thats all.

One of my friends works for Pioneer in the UK and he's currently not aware of new 4 speed drives yet. It is likely that Pioneer will release higher speed drives but they aren't on their way to the UK within the next couple of months that he's aware of.

Doesn't mean they wont arrive of course.

I have heard that Pioneer (and others) are releasing a 4X burner in May. Even though I knew this, I still bought my DVR-A04. The reason is the media. The media (other than the really, really expensive stuff) isn't mature enough for 4X burning and it might not be for a while. It takes less than 30 minutes at 2X to burn a movie and during this time, you can do other stuff on your computer. Hence, when the media arrives on the scene, I will upgrade to a 4X - not before.

They have ver 3.0 DVD-R media available and say they are the first in the UK to offer them. Supposedly more compatible than existing DVD-R brands, ordered a few to try. I'll make another trip to my local electrical superstore to test them against previous versions.

4x burning would be a big plus point and is long overdue in the DVD-R/RW arena.

4X DVD burning will be about the same as 36X CD burning, not an easy task if you want a quality burn. 2X DVD burning is quite fast...

Ok thanks for the reply's, finally i have heard somthing back. I am about to purchase a pionner A04 in the next 2 weeks, so i thought if the faster writers were going to be out shortly after i would wait. but it sounds as though you will get better quality burns at 2x anyway. if anyone heres anything else on better media or writers please post.

Many people have been wondering when Sanyo will enter the DVD recording area.. At last there are some great news. BrainWave has released information about a new Super DVD combo recorder from Sanyo with the code name"CRD-DV1". It is a DVD-R/CD-RW drive with some impressive features:

- 4x DVD-R writing, 16x DVD-ROM reading

- 24x CD-R writing, 12x rewriting and 48x (or 40x) reading

- BURN-Proof Technology for CD format

- ShockBP, FlexSS-BP and Safe-BP for CD format

As BrainWave said, the product will hit the market in June of 2002 in an unknown price for now. There will be a firmware upgrade around September 2002 that will add the DVD-RW format (probably only 1x) support and by the end of 2002, a Sanyo DVD+RW drive will appear.

Those news are probably the most interesting in this year's CeBIT show. The decision of Sanyo to enter the DVD recording format means that the DVD recorder prices will decrease rapidly, and the DVD recording will become reality for the most of the end users. Of course there are some questions whether 4x capable DVD-R media will be available by June, but the media manufacturers are working hard on it...

Now seeing this, i think i might just hold off for another couple of weeks and hopefully see some price falls, or get this new drive if it doesn't cost an arm & leg. thanks again for that link...

If Sanyo bring out a DVD-R/RW drive and also a DVD+R/RW drive later in the year I think there could be mass confusion amongst their purchasers. Most companies are sticking with one or the other for their PC drives.

Sony are bringing out a dual DVD-R/RW DVD+R/RW stand alone video disc recorder towards the end of the year however but their PC drives are still DVD-R/RW. I had heard they were considering launching a DVD+R/RW drive for PCs but don't know if it's out, scrapped, or on the way. The sooner the format war ends the better methinks.

Why not just a home DVD Recorder like the Panasonic DMR E-20, I bought one for $699 and it makes mirror images of DVD's and it don't take hours like all those PC Burners take because of ripping, if its a 90min. movie it takes 90min. plus 4 minutes to finalize, not no 10-12 hours like the rips do, plus no PC DVD Recorder has TBC correctors or any other correctors or filters like the panasonic does to improve the picture quality, plus no timers built in so you can record from Cable or satellite like the home unit does and I bet the 4x units will be not much less if any than the E-20 when they hit the market.
Does any of the PC units record in Dolby digital the panasonic records Dolby Digital 2.0.
