  1. I have a DVD which when I did the DVD Copy on Nero it failed 1/3 the way. When I tried to copy the Vob1-2 from the DVD to the hard drive, it hung 1/3 the way. When I used smart ripper, 1/3 the way it told me it has bad blocks.

Are there anyway to copy this DVD, it looked fine if I played on the set top DVD Player but just can't use the Computer DVD ROM to read those.

    Please help, thanks.

Gee, Tommy, why don't you give us enough information to try to help you?

For instance, what is the DVD? Maybe someone else copied this title without the same problems that you have, so that maybe your disk is defective (a scratch or something).

You say it will play just fine on a standalone... will it play on the computer? You say it won't rip, but playing is at a much lower speed (gives error correction time to correct).

You also said that you tried to DVD copy this with NERO. Either you don't know what you are doing (not an insult, just means that you are another one of many), or the disk is not encrypted.

    Give us some help here.

  3. I was helping my friend copy this movie so I forgot what movies it is. It is some Japanese MTV DVD without encrytions.

I had success in copying two DVDs but not the third one using Nero DVD Copy options. So I think I know what I was doing. They all are DVD silver and had no scratches.

Do you think it is my DVD Rom drive? I believe I can play the movies on the DVD Rom drive but I did not go through the whole movie and see if it hangs at the middle or not.

I believe that the original disk was a bad copy (probably cheap media - the silver DVD-Rs that I have tried - Princo - were ALL garbage). Try using the original burner to copy the files to HD (they seem to be more tolerant of errors that they create).

If the disks are not encrypted, then there is no need to use a ripping program. Just use regular copy, or "drag and drop" all the files to your HD.

I don't think that it is your system, just bad media.

  5. Thanks, I believe it is bad media. If the stand alone player can play them and the computer DVD ROM can't copy them, does it mean the end? I just cannot copy them?

I seem to be having the dsame problem, and it appears to be getting worse.
I have dvd-r's ripped myself from originals which play fine in player and PC.
but now when I copy with nero or Prassi I get bad blocks,
So I tried ripping with Smartripper, and dvd de-crypter, both failing or indicating multiple read errors, and after spending hours pushing retry in dvd decrypter it appears I may have got the full dvd but it is extremely jerky and full of frozen frames.
I have occasionaly found that removing the disk to allow it to cool,(it gets d4mn hot when trying to get those bad blocks) and re-trying that particulay vob it reads it fine (but not very often)
This is happening more and more often for me both reading from my A03 and from toshiba IDE reader with different disks.
I have got uptodate aspi drivers and run smart ripper in no aspi mode no difference.
The media I am using varies from pressed DVD silvers to Datasafe gen 3 unbranded.
I am running win2k pro on one machine with A03
And win2k Adv server on another machine with toshiba reader.

I have seen a few people getting similar erors but no-one ..yet solving it.
I don't understand how a disk can get bad block when it was once fine and now doesnt rip/copy.
It doesn't seem to affect originals.

visually the disks look fine, although it is possible that I am seeing a few tiny spots on the underside of the disks now...
this is possibly being caused from the constant retrying/ seeking to the same spot, or I could be imagining it just trying to find reasons why it's not working.

please someone help this is starting to do my head in.
