  2. Does your standalone DVD player supports MP3 playback?

  4. Your player has to be able to distinguish the different types of media (CD & DVD) in order to read the data from the discs. My guess is that when it sees DVD media it only looks for valid DVD-video file structures and file names and will not treat it in the same way as your computer treats a DVD-Rom or the same way it handles CD-media. Therfore it does not look for mp3 files to play, cannot see any valid DVD-video files and so rejects the disc.

I know this is not the answer you hoped for but its the best I can do.

bugster is 100% correct,cd & dvd media are read differently by your
    player.

It's the flat truth. My Apex will read a CDR full of MP3s, but if a DVD is in the tray, it will only accept DVD content. Cest la vie.

Apex announced some new players with even more bells and whistles, like the 2500... if any player will break this barrier, that'll be the one.
