Right, I know this question has been asked before but I couldn't find it using the search function so I have to ask it again.

Which of these will lok better:

    2250 cbr mpeg-2
    300-2250 2000 avg bitrate vbr mpeg-2

    Well?

Does anybody know which one would look better?

  2. The CBR clip.

A VBR clip cannot look better than a CBR clip if the max bitrate of the VBR clip is the same as that of the CBR one.

    Regards.

yes I know that the only difference is that vbr has the option of uping or lowering the bitrate depending on the scene, but using multipass on cce isn't there a difference as it spreads the bits differently or something?

Yes vbr allocates bitrate where it is needed most, but just think about it. If the max is the same as the cbr setting than at the most vbr will only allocate teh same amout of bits that the cbr clip uses in every scene.

With vbr max set to your cbr bitrate, it is possible to get the same relative quality in a smaller filesize, but the vbr encoded file can never really achieve higher quality.

They will probally look about the same,

VBR is good when you have a mix of high motion and low motion scenes.

But it's not really needed for things like weddings and british comedy.

I just read on a website that when using an avs to convert a vobfile that multipass will create less quailty than singal pass because its already been mpeged!!! Is this totall bullshit or what?
