Is there a way to cut the Divx AVI in half so it does not re-encode itself? Or is there a way to encode the DVD rip into two parts, I have a three hour movie & I want to keep the quality a little so I want to split it into two parts.
    Thanx

  2. You can use AVIChop to cut the AVI (DivX or not) file in pieces of X Mb long.
    Sorry about my bad english...

i don't like prefer to use AVI chop. in my history avi chopper has given me corrupted files that i can't rejoin again. i usually use virtualdub to chop the file. i choose the part of the movie i want by selecting and deleting the part of the movie i don't want. if that wasn't clear if you want to split the movie in half, you selected the first half and delete it and save the rest as a batch job. then i reopen the movie, delete the second half and save as batch job and run them both.

Load AVI into Vdub, Move slider to end of movie to find number of frames. Divide by 2 to get half way mark.
    Click Edit > Beginning

1, click black arrow at the bottom (Mark in) "Start of movie"
2, move slider to center of movie (or use goto frame) , click the key frame icon (Back once)
3, click black arrow at bottom (Mark Out)
4, First half of the movie is now highlighted
    5, select video > streaming
    6, select audio > streaming
    7, save as "part1.avi"
8, move slider to center of movie (Your are already there), click the key frame icon (forward once)
9, click black arrow at bottom (Mark in)
10, move to end of move, click the key frame icon (back once)
11, click black arrow at the bottom (Mark Out)
4, Second half of the movie is now highlighted
    11, save as "part2.avi"

    Or

Convert the whole movie in TMPGEnc, then use merge/cut to cut mpeg in half

I hope we're talking Mpeg-1 here. It's my experience that Mpeg-2's cut with TMPGenc will unsync the audio and video. Mpeg-1 and AVI's don't have that problem...

oldfart13, you seam to be following me about with Mpeg 1 Verses Mpeg2 comments, and point out that you are having problems with mpeg 2

Well we don't all share the same problems, and since the fast majority of people are making VCD's out of the AVI's then I guess mpeg 1 is the default format we use, I'm sure if it wasn't then Mpeg2 would have already been mentioned.

Maybe you would be better off posting your mpeg 2 problems, so that others can comment
