    Hi

I have some mpeg2 files which are very high quality, but there are certain parts I would like to remove from them without compromising the quality or having to export (re-encode) them.

I was wondering what software is out there that is quick and painless where I can just load the file and using like a skip frame timeline selection method to cut out the unwanted bits then just save it without having to export.

    Thanks

    Cuttermaran is free

But for ease of use your best bet is to buy a program like videoredo or womble mpeg-vcr

If you're going to do alot of cutting on lots of content over a period of time I recommend investing in one of the nice payware apps available. It's certainly worth it.

    In my opinion:

    Best Payware:
-TMPGEnc MPEG Editor - my personal favorite, it's flawless IMO
-VideoReDo - a big choice in this forum
-Womble MPEG Video Wizard - very good editor too

    Best Freeware:
    -Cuttermaran - solid and reliable

    Weaknesses of the above:
-TMPGEnc MPEG Editor - simple edits only (cuts/joins), very underrated for some reason, it deserves more attention
-VideoReDo - simple edits only (cuts/joins), a bit of a learning curve for its features, but very easy afterwards
-Womble MPEG Video Wizard - sometimes it throws off GOPs and time stamps during transitions or other advanced edits, but easily corrected with multiplexing with one pass in TMPGEnc or VideoReDo (QuickFix)
-Cuttermaran - needs elementary streams only, a bit of a pain but do-able
I hate VHS. I always did.

Mpeg2Schnitt is another nice freeware program, but you need to demux your files before Mpeg2Schnitt can use them.

Another vote for videoredo. Videoredo will also allow you to edit mpeg2 HD video's.
