  1. I currently have a really old RCA DVD player that won't play any CD-R/CD-RW or VCD's... and I work at Best Buy (where we get employee discounts on the stuff we sell)...

So I was wondering if anybody could recommend a DVD player (preferably one around $100) that plays VCD/SVCD on CD-R/CD-RW's...

    Thanks in advance.

Apex 1500 & 1600 are excellent DVD players. They will play just about any thing you throw at them. You can find these players from anywhere between $60-$90.

I don't think Best Buy sells these models (or brand), but I do think for the price, the employee discount would not be too much, thus buying these at a different store would still be a good idea.

You can't go wrong with these bad boys.

  4. Who sells the Apex AD-1500 or AD-1600?

For the 1500 I checked walmart.com and pricegrabber.com, both of which don't carry it anymore. Best Buy used to carry it as well, but they no longer carry it.

    The 1600 I didn't check yet.

    Where can I get these?

  5. Amazon.com is about the only place selling the Apex 1500 anymore.

Circuit City sells the 1200 but it has no display. The price is $60-$65 though and it plays most anything.

If you want to go to $100 you probably will find other brands that have as much compatability. I have heard some newer RCAs have wide compatability.

I know CircuitCity B/M stores have it. But they are usually sold out. In fact, most stores will generally have few, if any of these dvd players in stock as they are so popular.

I did by mine through Amazon, so I'm not sure of a "real" store that has them in stock. I would consider Amazon though because the difference between the 1500 & 1600 is like $5(Apex 1600 is $84.99).

I added a DVD movie to the order so I could qualify for the Free shipping on &99+ orders. Plus I didn't pay sales tax!

Hopefully this helps you. As for other DVD players, I haven't found (or tested) another machine with more compatibility than an apex. After all, the apex seems like a DVD-ROM drive with A/V outputs.

Does no one else find it ironic that a Best Buy employee came HERE for advice, and not to another Best Buy employee!

  8. AntnyMD, Umm... I DID ask other employee's for their opinion and I'm gathering as much information as possible before making a decision on which dvd player to buy. (thats what most educated people do)

To everyone else, thank you for your help. I've heard nothing but very good things about the Apex DVD player and that's what I'll probably order.
