  2. Whatever windows you're using, go into device manager. right click on your disk drive and make sure that you have DMA turned on. if you have win2k it's under IDE controllers.

Another solution is a 2nd harddrive on 2nd ide channel. On the 2nd ide channel, the 2nd harddrive should also be the only device active (during capturing) and should have the sole purpose of capturing.

  4. I am using a 700 Duron and a slow 5400 rpm hard drive. I can capture at 480 x 576 (for SVCD) while TMPEG converts a AVI file to MPEG at the same time. No frames dropped (about 50 in 90 minutes, but that's normal)

You should read the How To's to find out how to capture in real time. Don't capture uncomressed, use HuffYUV codec for image sizes up to 384x288 and PicVideo MJPEG for fulss size captures. Audio has to be captured uncompressed.

You wrote that you want to capture at 352x288 (I suppose for converting it later to VCD) and so you should use HuffYUV and you should use the color format YUV2, not 24 bit.

For WinTV I use the VfW drivers. The WDM drivers seem to be much slower and more buggy. OS is Win2k.

For encoding it will but it sounds like you have a corrupt driver.Update
the latest drivers for your capture card.

  9. WAIT!!!! Could this be it. onthe bios, it says checking NVRAM, i bought 256 SDRAM, does this make a difference? Windows still says I have 320 RAM. (I had 64 before). Or is this a false idea?

  10. what capture card do you have and what software are you using???
I wouldn't waste my money on a 1.1 Ghz.. save alittle longer and get the 3 highest processor out today... its always the bang for the buck ratio...

600mhz vs. 1.1 is better... but not alot...

make sure got alot of HD space, no other programs running, and if you got norton ... use norton doctor to see if it sees anything wrong.

if you looking for cheap processor... its good to look at www.pricewatch.com ... and if you are buying from a local store... do some research around your area... like don't buy from CompUSA or Bestbuy... they overprice on processor... local computer stores... you compare with the others... and they will beat the other store prices... BEST is on the net.
