    Since nobody else chimed in....
I start off with any basic template (sefys are good) or use VCDstandard one and go from there.
I think everyone adjusts settings depending on what you want to acomplish...Do u want real high quality, multiple disk movies?
Or do you not care as much about losing some quality and getting whole movie on one cd?
One thing get a template and edit it and save it....set it to non-standard VCD or any change you make will have no effect....
    StandardVCD is MPEG1 352x240, 1150kbps video 224kbps audio
All these settings (and more) can be tweaked.
I put 90 minute movies on one CDR all the time and have put as much as 2 hours on one......

After tweaking these settings and violating the VCD "standard," are the resulting VCDs playable on fewer standalone DVD players?

The first thing they say about VCD and SVCD is that not all players support them....Well not all players support nonstandard VCD either plbly less than support standard.
But.....If you can play a VCD then trying a Nonstandard VCD aint going to hurt anything.
I just was blind lucky and got a DVD player that will play anything I put in it. Your results may vary.... By the way my stand alone is a APEX1500.
