    ok i have a Philips DVD825 and every time i try to play a vcd/svcd, it seems to load fine but then the screen starts to jump

    It is possible that you are playing back a PAL disk and you have a NTSC TV.

    I have seen this with the Phillips players. They don't do the PAL - NTSC conversion but outputs the signal directly.

    You will most likely will need to re-encode the vcd/svcd into NTSC to be able to watch it with that player.
