Hi folks.
Has anyone tried hacking the Apple MPEG2 codec to work with a G3? It seems like it would provide a very elegant solution, without investing in an all-new system. I'm sure it's possible that such a task won't work.

What exactly is this Altivec support the codec needs, anyway? I have a G3 so I don't yet speak G4.
In order to play back (and preview in DVD Studio Pro) DVD-Video content on my G3 I first get Toast to mount a DVD image (thereby creating a "virtual" DVD drive) so that I can then play DVD-Video on my external superdrive. This does not, however, let me encode to MPEG2 from within Quicktime.
