  1. recently downloaded a vcd off the net. when i viewed it on my comp using powerdvd, it worked fine. then i burned it onto cds and tested them on my comp. and again they worked fine. i then tried to play these cd's on my dvd player (pioneer dv 440) and they do not have color. they are shown as black and white. this is very strange. at first i thought my standalone was messed up. so i tried watching one of the other svcd's that i have and voila! it worked fine. i tried to watch a few more and they all worked fine. i then put in this svcd i burnt and it was black and white again. the same svcd plays color on my comp's dvd player.

someone then told me that it definitely was a pal/ntec issue. the svcd that i dled was in pal standard and my dvd player was unable to play it correctly.

now my question: can i extract the mpeg1 from .bin using isobuster and convert it to ntsc standard? and if so, how?

    thnx for your time...

You should be able to convert it from PAL to NTSC using TMPGEnc. VideoMach is another program which SHOULD be able to do it. However, be aware that re-encoding an existing MPEG file will reduce the quality dramatically.

I really feel sorry for you NTSC-zoners. In Australia, 99% of our DVD players will play either PAL OR NTSC without a hassle, but the majority of US players will only play NTSC. How sucky for you.

  3. I agree with Chaoji's sentiments...

However, you should check your DVD manual first to see if you can hard set your player to play back in NTSC (i.e., your DVD player converts PAL to NTSC on the fly).

Converting from PAL to NTSC is not easy to do (on the PC) and often won't turn out well.
