  1. Ok, I thought I was somewhat computer knowledgable....I wound
up deleting a folder of stuff, and emptying my recycling bin without
knowing that I deleted something I needed. D'oH!

Anyone got any ideas to help me out? I've tried various programs
from the net, but I'm still stuck! Does anyone have any experience
with this that could shed some light on things?

    Thanks!

  3. First off, what ever you do, DO NOT DEFRAG YOUR HARD DRIVE. If you defrag, you will permently lose the files. Here's a few programs that you can also use to "undelete" the files, now that they are gone from your Recycling Bin:

  4. arg! all of these programs are pretty good...they actually sort of
find what i'm looking for. but then when you go to recover the file,
the stupid program asks $$$ and registration. AGH!

You've got to ask yourself how much both your files and your own original mistake is worth to you. Sucks, but sometimes mistakes actually cost money.

  6. Its time to measure how much your data is worth, like if its your great american novel, then you might want to cough up the dough and buy the software, but if its a couple pic or mp3s or stuff in general that isnt critical, you could maybe just cut your losses.

I will say this, the longer you keep using your disc the better chance you WILL over write the area that your lost data is stored on. And like someone else said, DO NOT DEFRAG because then you will kill any chance of getting that data back. It'll be gone forever. Most utility packages come with a file undeleter. You would boot from the cd and rescue the data.

Until to get that data I woudnt recommend saving anything else, especially anything large, because most likely windows will put it where your stuff used to be.
