  1. Most SVCD I've made in the past consists of small clips, movie trailers, etc they have played perfectly.

Yesterday I decided to encode a full movie and try It out. I made the first SVCD capturing 30 mins, editing them and then making a new avi (divx 5.0 format) file with the edited video (I used Divx to save CPU time), anyway then, I used Tmpegenc with their SVCD (2520 CBR) template and I added the ghost reduction and sharpen edges filters. I used Ulead's DVD Workshop to make the SVCD.

I used an 80min imation cd-r to make the SVCD and I burned It at 8x speed with an HP 9100 writer.

Anyway what is my surprise that when I try the svcd 5 mins into the movie It starts to chop the image. This gets solved sometimes by hitting FF, but the audio gets out of sync in an absurd way and getting worse with each passing minute. I played the SVCD in my computer and 2 laptops and also tested the stand alone MPEG-2 file on my computer and It plays smoothly with perfect audio/video sync. I thought I did something wrong when burning It but I reburned It with a 74min TDK disc and I get the same problem.

All this suggest me It has to do with the player which I find odd since I've tested VCDs and SVCDs in the past. Am I doing somehing wrong? Do you suggest anything?

Thank you very much for your time and help.

  2. A friend of mine replyed via Email and he told me It had to do with the player not supporting the bitrate. I should have figured.

Anyway, I'm changing my question now. I used 2520 k/s for video and 224 k/s for sound, now my question is: Does anyone know what is the maximum bitrate (audio+video) I can use with this player???

Any help woud be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

  3. I just bought a Pioneer C503, but it hasn't arrived yet. This player got great reviews on this site and other places. Reports say it plays SVCD very well. From what I can see, total bitrate of you SVCD is a little too high (2520+224=2744kbps). I usually keep it under 2620 (2500+112)kbps.

  4. I tell you poplar, that is a great adquisition. The player is top of the line honestly.

In my case I get errors when using 2520+224, I made a test and succeded using 2450+160 so everything below that is safe... I guess I'll have to waste a few more cds testing how far It can go.
