Hey
I took Kwags template and used tmpg 2.54a to make fast and the furious vcd, but when it came out i watched it on the computer first to check the quality and the picture was squashed into about 1.5 inches and all the the space was big black bars. I think its the resolution (352*480) but im not sure. I have changed the bitrate in the CQ on the template before encoding, but I dont think its the problem. Does anybody know the solution to this?
Thanks a lot

352x240 is standard VCD formatting resolution. And the black bars are just to keep the aspect ratio correct on widscreen movies. I'm not too sure by what you meant by the picture was squashed in 1.5 inchs. Can you clearify that part?

vcd resolution isn't 352X480 it's 352X240 for ntsc 352X288 for PAL. That most likely is your problem. You might try sefy's sevcd template in the tools on this site. It works nice with it I've been able to put a 2 hour movie on a 99min cdr. It uses vbr

smokingweed3000, the reason the picture looked like it did is propably because you played it with Media Player, you should try using PowerDVD or WinDVD, and on the TV it will play in the correct ratio, so don't worry.

Kwag's template will play (more or less) on many dvd players that support SVCD or by using PowerDVD/WinDVD.
However, it will not play with correct ratio on MediaPlayer. The reason is because 352x480 with MPEG1 it is not a standard.
If you encoded at the same resolution 352x480 but this time use MPEG2, it will play with correct ratio on MediaPlayer and on everything else.
The reason is because this is a standard, CVD. Using MPEG2 over MPEG1 may seem like a little matter now but it has significant implications for the future when 352x480 MPEG2 files can be quickly remuxed and mastered onto DVD Rs and become DVD player compatible while MPEG1 files have to be reencoded into MPEG2, losing quality and taking more time.
For now, compatibility is one good reason to stick to standards. MPEG1 for VCDs and MPEG2 for CVDs/SVCDs/DVDs.
The choice and your fate is ultimately up to you. -
Windows Media Player will not play MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 correctly at 352x480.
It's not because of the resolution. It's because WMP doesn't recognize the aspect ratio.
As a matter of fact, 352x480 is a standard. Called half D1 ( or half DVD ) resolution.
It's more standard than SVCD's 480x480 resolution.
352x480 MPEG-2 is playable in every DVD player because it's part of the DVD specifications.

Windows Media Player WILL play MPEG-2 correctly at 352x480 in correct ratio.
I've downloaded your Matrix clip in MPEG1 352x480 format and it will NOT play with correct screen ratio in Windows Media Player. It needs Windvd to play in correct screen ratio.
I make all my clips in 352x480 MPEG2 format and they ALWAYS play with correct screen ratio in Windows Media Player and in everything else.
***Do not mess around with nonstandards unless you know what is in store for you. Making VBR MPEG1s temporarily desyncs sound on my Pioneer standalone for the first 20-30 seconds. Not so when I use MPEG2. -

It does so in PowerDVD or WinDVD.

Hey
Thanks for all the replies, but that didnt work. I played it in winDVD, and windows media player and I got the same thing which was three sections, the top and bottom were black bars, and the middle section was the actual movie. The middle section was about 1.5 inches tall. Could it be that its becasue of the 16:9 in the DVD?
Im going to try it at 352*240 tonight and Ill tell u guys if it looks fine then.
If u have more suggestions for a solution please relpy.
Thanks a lot -
That is possible if your DVD movie is an Anamorphic Wide Screen, then the actuall playback area is extermly small.

Thanks -
my file is MPEG-1 cause all of u r talking about mpeg 2, could that be the problem too?

please anybody
there is a post before this one about anamorphic to 4:3 and it says to change the video arrange method to center keep aspect ratio, so would it solve my problem too? And what is the center custom size, can i use that and put in 352*480 and solve the problem?
Thanks to all of u -
When you say Anamorphic to 4:3 you wanna eliminate the the black bars ?

Smokingweed,
It would help if you could post a picture of your mpg video. Use WinDVD or PowerDVD to take a picture of the video.
Are you trying to get rid of the top and bottom black lines from a widescreen movie?
Are the people in the movie in the correct proportions or are they stretched out?
Kwag,
You probably have the Ligos (or another buggy) MPEG2 decoder installed, thereby not allowing you to view 352x480 MPEG2 in 4:3 ratio. Ligos codecs also has problem causing sound desyncs. Moreover, Ligos provides inferior video output compared to Windvd's codecs (arguably the best video output).
You can get rid of all buggy MPEG2 codecs other than Windvd's (Intervideo) codecs using DXMan. If you used Intervideo (Windvd's) decoder in WMP or even Windows Media Player's standard decoder, 352x480 MPEG2 will be in 4:3 ratio.
Like I said, on 6 computers tested, 352x480 MPEG2 will display in 4:3 ratio in WMP. Not so with 352x480 MPEG1. -
thanks to all of u but i fixed it, i just switched to center mode in tmpg.
Thanks anyway -
oh and kwag, yr a f***en genius, i got the fast and the furious with no blocks at all even when i paused at a high motion scene, keep it up man.
-
ok i just got kwag's template...
using kwag's template will generate a vcd or Svcd?
I tried to use the unlock template and adjust the fps to 23:995 from 25fps and cbp to automatic w/ 3000 max and 1000 min (figure this may get rid of the block noise), i played back on my daewoo 5800 and the audio was out of sync and video hangs every 3-10 mins.
What template should i use? im looking to convert to vcd's..
