You should have enough ram. The time it takes to encode is dependent on the speed of your CPU. A faster CPU means faster encoding time. going from a 700Mhz to 1400mhz should cut your time by almost half.
May the force be with you.

  3. With WinXP Pro you might consider 512MB to make sure processes are not swapping - task manager should help you determine that.

But I agree CPU speed makes the difference.

  4. Hiya

Not that I can help much, but my new P4 2.0 GHz with 256 MB DDR requires 26-30 hrs to convert a 2.5 hr DVD into a SVCD bin/cue. I was also considering more RAM, but have heard that it wouldnt benefit much for the total time to encode.

But then after a full day, I have a great SVCD.

  5. I would agree that ram dont make a difference ..... but i have 768megs of DDR ram and dual 1.2 GHZ MP processors. TMPGenc supports dual processors .... so it helps me out alot. I am gonna upgrade to dual 2.0GHZ MP processors shorlty. It takes me 30 minutes to convert a AVI file to MPG. Not bad .... its all about the processors. =)
