  1. I'm looking to pick up a CD writer for myself in the not-too-distant future, and I really need some advice on what models would be best. The main things that I'm looking for are:

1)SCSI support. I have a pretty badass SCSI card and I'm like to put it to use.
2)Minimum 8x write speed (other speeds not important).
3)Internal drive, no external stuff please.
4)Nice price tag. Nothing really expensive, moderate to low pricing preferred.
5)Brand names. I don't need the biggest brands ever, but nothing totally generic please.

Also, I don't care if it's a rewritable or not. As for usage, I'm only looking to do relatively simple (S)VCD authoring, ISO burning, and standard data backup. I'd list my system specs, but they're subject to change in the near future anyhow. Can anyone please point me in the direction of a few good models?

  2. the only thing SCSI that worth it is the Plextor, and I am not usre what was the last model they made in SCSI other than the 12x one. But for what it's worth your better off with a ATAPI model like a Plextor, Lite-On or TDK Velo as all of them incorperate burnproof, are uber faster cd rippers / bunrer and you can still play on the SCSI bus. BTW even if you have a Ultra160 SCSI Plextor only makes the 12x in Ultra SCSI so it will slow down any device on the same bus unless you have a mulitchannel SCSI card and set the SCSI burner on the ultra channel. I have a Plextor 8x20 SCSI ( 8x on bunr 20x on read/rip ) witn on rewrite but that model is no longer made, it has 4MB buffer and does not coaster unless you are doing something really stupid on an all SCSI machine. I still have my all SCSI ( ultra with LVD boot drive ) set up but no longer use it . But back in the day thr Plextor 8x was king over any ATAPI CD-R/RW drive with the same speed rating as I knew many people who had coaster problems back then, but times has changed and I no longer see any advatage for my needs with SCSI.
