Up until yesterday it was working fine, but now it always stops conversion when it reaches 99%. I have tried several things from reripping the DVD to using a different version of TMPGEnc. I have also checked from CPU overheating and it still happens. I normally get the message [b]TMPGEnc has cause an invalid page fault in Kernel32.dll at XXXX:XXXXXXXXXX[\b]. What else could be causing this? Short of reinstalling windows, as a last resort, what can I do?

  2. I used to get these wierd errors on my old (now retired) K6-3 450 mhz machine. Reinstalling windows did not help my situation.

The source of the problem could be a inaccurately emulated MMX instruction on the AMD CPU (as speculated by others on this site). Or perhaps the DVD VOB file has corrupt frames (as speculated by others on this site).

Are you using 2-pass VBR? Wierd crashes still sometime occur when using 2-pass VBR on my Athlon XP CPU, especially when frameserving with VirtualDub and using IVTC.

Encoding with CBR seems to avoid these errors but the resulting file does take up more space.

Yes, I am using 2-pass VBR and it's never failed before. Could be that it is a corrupt DVDVOB. Too bad I don't have the DVD anymore. Guess I'll have to trysomething else. Thanks for the input

  4. You can try encoding with CPU settings all unchecked (in Environmental Settings). Also, uncheck Floating point DCT (in Quantize Matrix).

This solution is supposed to help out on people experiencing errors with Tmpgenc. I have no personal experience with this solution (I read it from tmpgenc.net's BBS).

If you do succeed in using VBR, please post your success story.
