Problem: I have an ac3 file that i want to convert to *.mp2 . The problem is that when I try to convert it to mp2 using SVCD specs, high pitches of sounds come out every 5-10 Seconds.

I've narrowed the problem down to the bitrate. I set the bitrate to 192 and all was well. When the bitrate was set to 224, the high pitches of sounds came. So, i'm assuming, any higher that 192, the audio will become all screwed up!

    The AC3 Specs are : Dolby Digital, 48000KHz, 448-bitrate.

If anyone has a solution to my problem, please post.

Do these high pitched sounds occur when you play the .mp2 on your pc? I know you said you encoded according to the svcd specs but just to be sure, are you resampling the 48kHz down to 44100kHz?

I have several theories of what might be going on but they are guesses at best.

If these sounds are present when listening on your pc and you didn't downsample to 44100kHz then it could be that your soundcard doesnt support 48kHz audio. This is the case with alot of older model soundcards. Incidentally, 48kHz does not comply with the svcd standard and some dvd players can't handle it. This may be the cause of the high pitched sounds during hardware playback.

If these sounds only occur during playback on your dvd player and you did resample to 44100kHz then it may be that your total combined bitrate (audio and video) are too high and for some strange reason this is causing severe artifacts in your audio. Its a stretch but that would explain why lowering the audio bitrate seems to help.

Other than that I'm not sure what's going on, thats a pretty bizarre problem. Maybe check the dvd player compatibility list to see if anyone else has experienced similar problems on that model of dvd player.

  3. I've done some Trial and Error test. I've narrowed it down to the Bitrate. I tried taking of downsampling, but still, these bitches of sounds still occur. As i said, it only happens when the bitrate is over 192.
