MPG audio synchronised OK but not when burned as VCD

I converted several DIVX files to MPG format for burning to VCD using tmpgenc with no problems and the audio/video of the MPG files are perfectly in synch. However some of the resulting VCDs burned in Nero have audio synch problems (although some are OK).

Can anybody advise me as to what the problem could be?
