I'm not sure if I want to buy a firewire DVD-RW or a Firewire Hard Drive.
I have a laptop with a 20 gig HDD and I have maxed it out many times with downloads and captures
For about the same price as a DVD-RW i can get a big firewire hard drive.
R they worth it?
Or would it be cheaper to buy an idie drive and a firewire encloser.
Also
Would it be possible to buy an IDIE DVD-RW and a firewire shell?

I would go with the dvd myself but if you need the room, you need the room. If your going to get the harddrive I would suggest the eide drive with the firewire enclosure. It might be a little cheaper and you would have a bigger selection of harddrives to choose from.

why get firewire when you can get U.S.B. 2.0 it tranfer at 480 megabite per sec. It also cheaper than firewire.

Then I'd have to spend anouther $100 for a USB 2.0 card.
My laptop came with a build in firewire bus. -
Well, if you want portability and expandabliity then go with DVD, but if you want alot of storage then go hard drive. I heard alot of people even upgrade the hard drives that come with then, put in another larger or faster because all they are is external IDE adapters that use the firewire interface.

I was thinking of buying a firewire "shell"
That being a device that translates IDE commands into firewire.,
Then I coulg buy a cheap, fast hard drive and a Pioneer AO4 (or 104, whichever is chepaer, I dont' need lots of software and stuff.) -
Yeah, and then you buy one case and you can put many types of devices in there. CDROM,CDRW,DVD,DVDRW,ZIP,and so on.
