I have an MKV file that was ripped from one of my own Blu-rays, the anime movie is in Japanese and it has two subtitle options (English and Japanese) which, when playing back with VLC (for example), I can select.

However, if I use Handbrake to reduce the file size I lose the subtitles.

I've been into the subtitle settings and fiddled around but don't seem to be getting anywhere.

    Any ideas please?

    Thanks

As far as I can recall, you have to add any additional streams (audio (other than the 'default' stream?), subtitles, etc.) yourself - it doesn't automatically scan the video source, assume you want to keep everything and therefore import them. (I'm not at a computer with Handbrake installed at the moment, though, so I can't check. )
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

Thanks very much, I've since tried that but still no luck. Any others ideas please?

If you don't mind using another tool, load your recode in MKVToolNix. Also load the source mkv, where you deselect evrything but the desired subtitle stream(s).

Could you post a mediainfo report (text mode) from this mkv here?

I'll give that a try, thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks, if MKVToolnix doesn't help I'll do that.
