  1. Hello all : )

I just picked up a NOVA 950 Transcoding TBC at a sale and am looking for a manual. I'm a home user with a bunch of editing decks and VCRs, and digitize with a Black Magic Intensity Shuttle, as I'm sure you've encountered the shuttle is picky and I was hoping the TBC would boost the signal to a useable level with the shuttle. Now that I have it home I can't figure out how to set it up - it powers on but none of the dials or options on the front light up or appear to do anything as of now. If anyone has experience with these or advice generally it'd be very helpful - or if you think I got a model that won't work with my gear I'd love to know too. thanks!

That's an ancient rackmount TBC that pre-dates digital conversion needs (and thus not created with this task in mind).

Any random TBC isn't any other random TBC.

Those old units were used in somewhat abusive environments. "Not working" is the norm, not the exception, and has been for at least 15 years now. I still remember (2000s) when those were dumped all over eBay for about $40 each, and nobody touched them. It was all recycle fodder, and eventually that's what happened.

You need a DataVideo/Cypress type external frame TBC unit -- and in proper working order (almost always meaning refurbished these days, aka NOT from eBay randoms!), and NOT the flawed chipset versions. Not some old rackmount junk, not a mixer/whatever that "also has" (supposedly, often not actually) a TBC inside.
