  1. Ok, so i finally got around to installing XP. I got the new XP drivers for my wintv and redownloaded AVI_IO. I get an error on the loading of AVI_IO saying that it could not load first capture device. I have to manually set the device to WinTV. Microsoft WDM device is also listed. The stations button is greyed out now, so I can't set stations and setup timed recordings. Anyone have any idea why I can't set stations now that I'm in XP? Help!

    Thanks.

    AVI_IO is joke get VirtualDub
How ever you shouldn't be using WDM drivers with AVI_IO If I recall rigth it was made for VfW drivers.

    SHS,
How is AVI_IO a joke? VirtualDub will drop frames where AVI_IO using the same settings will not?

    kidfob,
If you really want to use AVI_IO you can get the wrapper which "tricks" AVI_IO(or VDub) into thinking your WDM capture device is a VFW. But I also suggest iuvcr ir your capturing with a WDM device.

I have to agree with monsoon01, as a dedicated capture program AVI_IO runs rings around VDub. I believe Vdub is best for editing and further processing of the AVI file. However if you look at my computer setup you will see that it is very similar to monsoon's, maybe AVI-IO is better suited to the PCTV card.

  7. Well I use my Happauge PVR card with Vituraldub and I don't drop any frames no matter what I am using, Uncompressed, Divx, Huffy, MPEG4 or Crystal MPEG, probably helps me that I am using a Athlon 1600+ Quadpseed also.

  8. To set stations you need to use WDM drivers, the Drivers for WinXP are VFW (on the PVR). Before I get screamed at, I have WinXP, I have a PVR and yes the drivers are VFW (probably cause Hauppage created a built in Wrapper). So short answer is either use the beta WDM drivers or change channels with WinTV 2K and then cap what you chose.

  9. i'm currently using the beta wdm drivers, but still can't get the station button to become active. also, under devices, i can't select the wintv, i must use Microsoft WDM device. Am I the only one who's going through this?!!

thanks for the help so far.

    kidfob,
I've done some searching for the wrapper, seems to me that if you have XP with directx 8.1 you should have it (vfwwdm.dll) in ur system driver, search and see. This is the only place i can find the wrapper, it seems to be specific for ATIs only but you can check and see...
    the wrapper:
    here

also I found a virtualdub link that helps with installation:
    here

Sorry I couldn't help you more but try iuvcr its just as good and without all the hassle of the wrapper.

  12. Thanks for the help you guys. I did in fact try IUVCR and it is sooo clean. I was set to make a total conversion...... then I ran into trouble: Timed Recordings.

With AVI_IO. In the timed recordings option, you can set the time date and channel to record. With IUVCR, you just set a schedule to record. You don't get to specify the channel. This means it will record whatever channel IUVCR happens to be tuned to. If I could somehow set the channel to record, all my problems will be solved. Please tell me this is possible. I love iuvcr's interface!

    Thanks again, people.

    kidfob,
could you just tune it to whatever channal you want before you leave and let it do it then? i dont know i'm tired and kinda out of it (flu medicine messes with your mind haha)

  14. ya, i had the flu too. have fun w/ that, bro. lol.

i'd rather not tune and dash. I loved AVI_IO because it made my computer a digital vcr and i could set multiple channels to record. I wonder why this feature is not implemented in iuvcr. it seems like a no-brainer.

    so close, yet so far....
