i burned a vcd w/ Nero lastnight and when i tried to play it on my pc all i see on the disc when i open it were folders (CDI, EXT, MPEGAV, SEGMENT, VCD). How do i play the movie?
Please help!

In Explorer browse into the MPEGAV folder (assuming it's a VCD)
Double-click on any of the .DAT files and associate them with your Media Player and open them with that.

if i associated .dat file with the media player would it still be able to play on a stand-a-alone player?

yes it won't affect the vcd at all. if you can't play the vcd with media player try windvd or powerdvd.
