get yourself a copy of vfapi converter, virtualdub(or aviutil or avisynth) & vobsub. in short, use vfapi to convert the .d2v project to an .avi reference file, open in virtualdub & apply vobsub filter, frameserve(run auxsetup.exe to install avi handler) to tmpgenc & continue normally

Download this program this is the easiest way to do it !
and the quality of the movies are just great ! :D -
part of stanwebber's procedure is here at this site:
http://www.doom9.org/vobsub.htm
an alternative to vobsub/vdub is avisynth/flaskmpeg...i personally don't like it nearly as much as the vobsub/vdub..but u can give it a try if you want:

I don't have much else to add - just a link to a guide that shows you how to set up and use the programs that stanwebber described: http://www.doom9.org/mpg/tmpg-main.htm
