Canopus Digital Video Editing System, what does it do?

I came across this thing in the suggestions on Ebay:

It is called Canopus Digital Video Editing System, it seems to have 2 input, and some ports on the back. I was not able to find any user manual for it.

I am curious if anyone has an idea on what it does exactly.

I am guessing it can work like 2x Advc 100 in parallel, but there seems to be more to it than that...Any idea?

It's the "breakout box" or "DV Dock" from Canopus DVRex-M1, which came out in 1998.

Is the box useful on its own? or does it always has to be paired with the main board?

Is the box useful on its own?

FireWire 4-pin can't carry power, so you wouldn't even be able to light the LEDs. It looks like the box provides passive electrical connection from AV sources to the DVRex-M1 board. The PCI board itself contains Philips SAA7111A for A→D and SAA7164A for D→A.
