  1. Okay, I want something that is extremely low cost, but will also play VCD, SVCD,and maybe even XVCD and XSVCD. I was surprised when I lookedd in the database here and found that it sayd, "There are no Standalone DVD-Players that can play Divx Yet." When I know for a fact that Proscan and RCA have models that can play Divx. Well, anyways, I need a suggestion because I am currently using VCD because it plays well on my PC, but I really like the Performance of SVCD which sux when played on PC.

The APEX brand is a good place to start! I think some of them will even play a grape Pop-Tart if you stuff it in the disk tray; compatibility is their watchword (Wal-Mart is a good place to order them if you have no dealer near you).

That's news to me. Could you please list a model number of one of those RCA/Proscan players that can play DivX files, please...I'll be quite surprised.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  3. PROSCAN PS8680Z
    RCA RC5231Z

I believe both of these models play Divx. I'm not certain, but I think that Proscan might be an RCA company.

There are two things called divx

The one you are talking about is writen like this DIVX
notice all capital letters which is now defunct Circut City venture and was basically a pay per view dvd.I kind of liked the idea myself.

The other one is a compression of avi written like this DivX
notice the i & v are lower case letters. This is the one we all talk about on this site. Their site is great www.divx.com. If you go there you night understand it better.Go to the FAQ page.

    As for the post question
I think the apex is the best bet it's the most veratile cheap player there is.
Also they are going to start making players for sony Pioneer and phillips, etc read more about the licensing agreement here

    Hope this info helps

  7. Proscan is a better model of rca which is made by Thompson electronics which is owned by General Electric

seen these players, as well as the zenith player, guess what!! that's not the same divx! the divx talked here is the new format of pay per view and not the avi-divx codec, so don't be fooled

  11. I also highly recommend Apex players. They play DVD, CD-audio, VCD, SVCD, XVCD, CD-R, CD-RW, even MP3's! I am more than happy with my AD-660, and a friend has the 1500, these are single-disc and they have 3-disc and (I think) 5-disc. Cheap too, can be found for $65-$99. Check Circuit City. I have yet to put a disc in that it wouldnt play.

    The Apex 1500 plays:
    DVD
    DVD-R
    DVD-RW
    CD
    CD-R
    CD-RW

    And...

A CD-R/RW with jpeg photos burned onto it. It will display them on your TV in a slide show, with selectable transitions between them.

    At Circuit City for $69!!!

  13. Just purchased a APEX 1200 from Circuit City and It works great on VCD SVCD JPEG and MP3 All done on Fuji CDR. I have also tried no label .10 CDR Media and this was fine also. The only problem is that the new 1200's do not respond to the region hack code as the older ones do, At least mine doesn't..

  14. I just went to Circuit-Village and got the Apex AD-5131. It's a 3-Dic loader, and it will take XVCD's and XSVCD up to 5000Kbps!!! Wow that's pretty high if I'm not mistaken. It seems to play every one of my VCD's and my SVCD's no matter if they are standard or not. Definitely a good buy for $99 if you ask me.

lots of misinformation here...perhaps doesn't matter...

GE doesn't own Thompsom but Thompson licenses the GE and RCA brand names from GE which GE does own! GE no longer makes radios DVD etc but Thompson sells under that brand name.
The GE and perhaps others are made by Apex. My Ge 1101p DVD players nearly everything great machine cheap at Walmart.
DVD players that can play DivX and WMV are in the works and will soon be for sale! Yes I am talking about DivX codex we play on our PCs!
