What DVD player has the most playable formats?

I burn dvds with nero and get an audio lag by 4-5 seconds. I did a little research and found that it is my dvd player...

Or Nero. Nero has all sorts of problems with audio sync.

The most versatile player I have seen in the Zensonic (formally Zentronic). See the specs here : http://www.z500series.com/specs.php

What exactly are you doing ?

Are you just burning with Nero, or converting avis to DVD and burning them ?

Are you burning avi files as data for playing a Divx capable player ?

Your player should not have any lag or sync problems from a well converted/authored disc. Some older players did have sync issues when sending digital data to decoding amplifiers, but that was 8 years ago or more.

I don't use Nero any more - haven't for years. For burning I use Imgburn. It's small, free, and the best DVD Video burner around.

If you are converting avi to DVD, try ConvertXtoDVD or one of the free converters - DVD Flick or FAVC.

to ry94080, even the most wretched cheap-o DVD player nowadays will simply play what's thrown to it, delay & all. I'll hedge my bets and say it's NOT your DVD player. As for Nero, it will simply burn what you tell it to. Delays in video & audio are a fact of life in NLE & DVD-authoring, and there are ways of correcting it once you have identified where it's possible. If you started off with either an *.avi or *.mpg, did you play it back before authoring a DVD with it? Maybe it was already out of sync at that point. Whether it is or not, here is what I do: wherever I started from, I make sure to use ONLY elementary files (*.m2v & *.mp2, *.wav, or *.ac3). In any reputable DVD-authoring program (I use Encore & DVD-Lab) when these elementary audio & video streams have been dragged into place on the timeline, I play it back from there. It's at this stage where it's easy to see if they are in sync or not. If they're not, I drag one or the other a few frames this & that way until they sync, and only then do I proceed with the authoring.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

ry94080 - Your premise is probably not correct. You are assuming that whatever you are doing is 100% correct and therefore it MUST be the player's fault. Since you told us nothing about what you are doing, we can't conclude that the player is to blame.

If you are doing what a lot of people do, which is have Nero convert stuff to DVD for you, then yes, Nero CAN be to blame. It would be helpful to know exactly what you are doing. Are you downloading Divx files and converting them? Are you ripping and shrinking DVDs? It's your call. You can either tell us what you REALLY did and tell us what your DVD player model is or not. If you are so sure that you know exactly what your problem is, why come to us for help? You should know that DVD players are not typically known for causing sync problems. You don't say what kind of research you did, but you might have just found a bunch of b.s. from people who don't know what they are talking about.

Philips, for example, makes many cheap players that handle a variety of formats. Will they play EVERYTHING? Nope. You can do a search here on this very site by following the DVD Players link and tell the search engine what you want in a player and it will return matches.

I'm using Nero for everything. To convert, then burn to a DVD. Good point, I should check out my video files to see it's original state....
