right, the software that came with my card was complete crap, actually reset my system (win98) every time i try to tune in....
Using virtual dub didnt work, but the guy i bought it from reccomended showshifter, which works quite well except it's not freeware, and captures files as .ssf files, not usable by any other program. the full version will capture to .avi, but i dont think it supports segments, so ill be limited to about 45 minutes of capturing anyway. so i read through the forum found a link for the wrapper (id already downloaded DX8.1, as showshifter told me to, but it apparently it hadnt installed the wrapper) and after isntalling it vdub sees my card. my only problem now is that it refuses to capture higher than 352X288, wheras showshifter was happy to cap up to 768X576. this is a complete pain, as i want to be capping 720X576 (im in the uk) and back up all my laserdiscs onto dvd, so 352X288 is useless. so does anyone know if theres a new version of the wrapper? or if i need new drivers for the cap-card, or has anyone else found some kind of work around?
    any help would be appreciated!

Since you are smart and are using Win98, you don't need to use WDM capture drivers -- you can use the old, reliable VfW drivers. No wrapper required.

This is assuming you have a capture card which has old drivers available.

I'd recommend trying to capture with AVI_IO. A free trial is available. If that works, you can progress to experimenting with VirtualDub captures. AVI_IO is easier to use in my opinion.
