I am considering purchasing a Pinnacle DC10 Plus card for capturing in realtime MPEG-2 (I wanna make a DVD from my satellite TV service), but first, wantedf to know if this card would support it... I'd love advice from people who have been there/done that/got the t-shirt, etc.

    My system is:

    Athlon XP 1600 (1.4 ghz)
    256 megs of SD-RAM
40 gig Seaghate 5400 Hard drive
Soltek SL-75KAV Motherboard (with's it's AC-97 sound.. however I can use a SB Live! if needed)
    Windows 2000

How does this card perform? Can it successfully capture at 720x576 @ 25fps, without dropping any frames? Most of the reports I've read here conflict in either it does/doesn't run under Windows 2000, does/doesn't support 720x576 video capture, etc... I'm planning on using this on a fairly regualr basis, and I don't wanna spend a fortune. Has anyone experienced this card dropping frames a lot?

I have Ulead MediaStudio 7 Directors Edition, so will this be okay to use? or should i use the mpeg-2 codec found on this site, and VirtualDub? I wanna make DVD compliant streams, (preferably PAL)

Any help would be greatly appeciated... Thanks!

Hi, the dc10+ captures in mjpeg not mpeg. So you will have to encode it to a mpeg file.
I have the dc10+ and would not recommend it to anyone. Pinnacle tech support is very bad. Go to their site and read the forums and you will see what i mean.
They released a beta driver a few months ago for the dc10+ for win2000 & xp but not a final driver yet.
The beta driver will not work with 3rd party software works only with studio7.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi,

The DC10+ is a decent capture card but not great by current standards. As already stated, it only captures in MJPEG (an older "standard"). Its major advantage now is its performance for its price.

Studio 7 has finally been updated with a released DC10+ driver for windows 2000 and XP. They've certainly had their problems getting Studio 7 working properly. I can't be more specific because my DC10+ doesn't seem to be working properly (its 4-5 years old now).

  4. Dear friend,

I have a DC10 Plus, and I got upset because I couldnīt work with VDub on Windows 2000. I needed to reinstall Win98SE.
Itīs a very good card, if you have just Win98SE.
