    Hi all.
I m trying to rip a dvd that contains 4 episodes of a series. Each episode is 42.something minutes. From what I can see there are 7 VOB files that contain the 4 episodes.
First I tried the easy way with dvd2svcd. It only ripped VOB1 and VOB2 out of 7 containing only the first episode so I desided to do it manually with decryptor and then use dvd2svd and I ended up encoding some 8 gigs and 22 hours of encoding.
Now what I want to know is how I can brake the encoding to 4 lets say one svcd to each episode.
I tried ve everyting I know ( klaps I know so litle) but I couldnt get cut the sound and the subs of each episode tothe exact point.
Can someone lead me in the way of doing each episode seperatly with the apropriate sound lenght and subs?
    THX guys
By the way its a StarGate dvd reg2 PAL if that means anything

I've had partial success using FlaskMPG. The target was Sopranos and there were 7 VOBs per DVD. I pointed Flask to each individual VOB and started the conversion to AVI. You will need to note which other VOB file the flask process picks up. I managed to extract 3 episodes but the third had no sound. This was my first attempt at a multi episode dvd. I would also appreciate any input on this.

Well I think it can be done by using Avisynth and its command "Trim". Using dvd2avi I find the end frame of its episode and feed that to the range of "Trim" in the Avisynth but I really dont know how to do the sound trim in BeSweet and the subs to stop on the precise Frame.
By the way I m using cce 2.5 and BeSweet. I m still trying to find out about Subs. U see my wifes english arent that good and due to Pioneer problems I have to use permenent subs.

  4. you could do it with DVD2SVCD. If it only has one .ifo for all seven vobs then the Movie Length should have four selections. Rip each one with internal routines with 1.0.9 build 1. If it has four .ifo files for each episode then just pick those .ifo one at a time with file mode.

Then you can double check your dvd2svcd batch.bat and then let it rip and it should process all four episodes without user intervention. I've done up to four dvds at once. See batch encoding tips in dvd2svccd advanced reference if you wish.

remember if you combine vobs (which is possible) then you'll lose your original dvd chapters in which case you may want to use fixed chapters instead.

  5. I find the easiest way to encode multiple episodes from one dvd is to rip only one episode at a time. I like to use SmartRipper for this. Check out my guide for set-up instructions:

The problem is that only decryptor works on this dvd and the ifo file is a bit weird because I can only seem to acces the first episode of the series using vstrip from dvd2svcd program so I have to do it manually at least thats what I think. Any other suggestions

The problem is that dvd2svcd reports 8 main episodes not 4. The lengh of the first and the fifth is exactly the same so is the second and the sixth. And Decrpt reports that pgc 1 and 5 start and end at the same time so...
I dont know maybe its something weird going on here.

    Finally got this to work....
    1. Smart Ripper in movie mode to extract individual episodes, These show up as 4 different Angles.
    2. DVD2AVI to save each episode so you have a small *.D2V file and large MB WAV file. You may have to experiment with which VOB file you use as DVD2AVI can pick the wrong file (not sure why). Point DVD2AVI at the largest VOB file and it will work out which others to attach.
    3. TmpgENC to finsih off.

    Hope this helps

I m still trying to find the best way.
If you cut in dvd2avi then the wav file should be the exact lenght of the d2v you re making. So you end up with lets say 4 d2v files and 4 sound files.
I never use dvd2avi to decode sound. I demux and use besweet for that.
The problem comes when u want to cut the subtitles. Thats a hard one because u have to know the exact time to cut them.
One way I found is to load the compete dvd2avi file in virtualdumb and there find the exact time to cut and the apropriate key fame and use that time in dvd2avi.
I think u can frameserve from that program too, I mean virtualdub, wich means that u use the filters and the cut feature and feed that to the encoder. But avisynth has to be involved for things to work.
I m still testing I ll get back to you if I find something easier.

What i do is play the DVD using Window Mediaplayer (8) and select each episode in turn. The vobs and chapters are then highlighted on the right of the screen. Take note of each one, then use Smartripper to rip each episode into a seperate folder.
