has anyone made successful svcd's by creating an xml file to a .bin image in missingmpegtools and burning it as a disc image in toast?
i got this to work perfectly once. but every time after, repeating the exact same process, it didnt work... even with the same two files. my dvd player displays "svcd" when disc loads, but no video plays.
anyone have any input on this method? i'm running out of troubleshooting ideas. :(

It took me forever to figure this out, but I've had nothing but success ever since. NOTE: I had to install OSX for this to work! In OSX I use a program I think is called GNUVCDtools (let me get back to you on this cuz I'm not sure thats the right name). I take my .bin and convert it to an mpg and .xml file. Then I use the same program, select the .xml, and it generates a series of .img files. I then copy them to my OS9 computer, run Toast Titanium, burn 2 of the .img files under Multitrack CDXA, and voila - disc in my player, Lord of the Rings on my television. I've never been happier to figure something out. I've had success now with all 3 movies I've done. I also then use a program I think is called VLC player to view the .bins before I start. It plays them right away so I know its not a bum file! Hope this helps.

hey, thanks for your reply! unfortunately i've already tried the method you described, several times, with no success. :( i actually created the .bin from an xml and mpegs i already had, so i didn't just find it somewhere. when i burn a single mpeg .bin file in toast under "disc image" mode, all works fine (usually). but when i need to make a multi-track svcd with more than 1 mpeg, it just wont do it from a .bin. it'll either not play at all, or lump all the mpegs onto 1 large track, no matter how i tweak the xml. i've tried creating .img files using 2 different programs (GNU vcdtoolsx and missingmpeg tools) and burning them in multitrack xa cdrom mode in toast.. and it's *never* worked. not once. i've been at this for months and am now convinced that it's my dvd player... even though it says on the front it plays SVCD, and other people on the net with my model (sampo dve-611) have had no problems playing SVCD's they've created using PC programs on it.

When you vcdxbuild an cdrdao image(s) from a xml, using MMT, how many .img files does it create in you folder?
Should be, name_01.img (which is the navigation); name_02.img .... name_04.img (one for each movie).
Also a name.toc and name_02_pregap.img .... name_04_pregap.img (these are not used).
This can all be seen in the Terminal window as they are being built.
Drag only the 01 thru 04 into Toast XA in sequence. -

if say i'm using 2 mpegs, mmt will create 3 .img files in my folder, along with the pregaps.
i drag the .img files 1-3 into toast in multitrack xa cdrom mode, in order, and trash the pregap files.
write disc. put it in my dvd player. nothing. :( it thinks it's a "CDDA" disc for some reason... and it looks like it's trying to cycle through the tracks, but the screen remains blank and there's no audio.
i *know* i'm doing this right, and it seems to be working for everyone else. it's probably my dvd player. to troubleshoot, i'm going to send a couple of test svcd's to my boyfriend in england, so he can see if they will play on his dvd/svcd player.
