  1. Okay,

Here's my situation. I have windows XP burning VCDs with Nero 5.5. I have followed the Nero instructions provided by VCDhelper exactly. However, after Nero successfully burns the VCD, the disk only contains the folders that Nero places on the VCD automatically. My track cannot be seen anywhere. It won't recognize the track in my DVD Player, my DVD Rom or my CDRW. What could I be doing wrong?

Any help anyone can give me would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  2. Look in the MPEGAV folder. You should have at least one AVSEQxx.DAT file - open it in media player. I believe the VCD directory structure is something like this:

    VCD
    INFO.VCD Album and disc identification
ENTRIES.VCD Entry point list for up to 500 entries
    PSD.VCD Optional Play Sequence Descriptor
LOT.VCD Optional List ID Offset file
    MPEGAV
AVSEQnn.DAT MPEG files (one per track)
    CDDA
AUDIOnn.DAT CD Audio files (one per track)
    SEGMENT
ITEMnnn.DAT Segment play items (one per segment)
    KARAOKE
    KARINFO.xxx Optional Karaoke information files
    EXT
PSD_X.VCD Optional extended version of PSD,VCD
LOT_X.VCD Optional extended version of LOT.VCD
SCANDATA.DAT Optional list of I-frame addresses
CAPTnn.DAT Optional Closed Caption data (one per track)
    CDI
    CD-i program and data files
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  3. Thanks. I'll try that. I didn't know I could open that .dat file.

  4. P.S. Thats also a way you can take video files off video games for the PC to. I took all the video files off my resident evil 3 game using that method.

About that SEGMENT folder: When I create a menu image for VCD using Nero 5.5.8.0, is that the ITEM0001.dat file? If so, any ideas why my standalone doesn't see it (Toshiba SD-3750). It recognizes all of the .dat files in MPEGAV and plays them fine, but I can't find a way to access the menu page. Simply a limitation of the player? Any workarounds?

First of all -- sorry for that double post.

Got the menu access problem figured out. Stupid me, had to change a setting with the standalone (it's new...).

Now, another question: with VCD's, how elaborate can the menu be? Will using VCDEasy allow me to create more navigational menus? What I have now is pretty static, with just the ability to go a scene by selecting its number.
