  2. Do you have a utility to monitor CPU temperature? Encoding is usually done with as much of the CPUs power as is available, and as such your CPU can get quite hot. I'd be curious to know how hot the CPU is shortly before everything freezes up.

Is the CPU running at standard speed, or is your CPU overclocked? This will (of course) cause the CPU to run hotter and there's the heat thing again.

  3. Thanks for your reply.
my temperature is somewhat between 40 to 50. but even at night my temp is 38. it still hang after a while. i just used the tempeg program istead of the mediastudio. and did hang my temp reach its max at 51c.
whats going on is it the media studion has a bug. i tried increasing the cpu core to 1.85. and seem everything was fine a couple of days . then the problem started again

  4. Well the temp sounds OK, hmm....

What version of the VIA 4-in-1 drivers are you running for that KG7? I think v4.38 is the most recent release.

Which BIOS version is the KG7 running? ZL? 68? Something in between?

  6. The only thing more exasperating than a recurring fault in hardware or software (or a manufacturing process, R&D project, etc etc) is a fault that recurs only some of the time. That sort of thing can drive you to drink, chain-smoke, and rip out your hair out trying troubleshoot the situation!

OK, the BIOS versions for the KG7 are (oldest to newest) ZL, 3Y, 4B, 4J, 5W, and 68. 4J improved (they say) the stability of DDR RAM. All versions install the same HPT370 BIOS (1.11.0402), except for the last one (68) which uses HPT370 BIOS 2.0.1024 (disregard if your board isn't a RAID version, since it wouldn't have a HPT370 RAID controller in that case) and had a fair number of fixes that may or may not be relevant to your particular setup and usage.

The BIOS stuff is just trivia at this point, because I wouldn't say with any certainty that the BIOS version has anything to do with your problem (just file it away for the future). The fact that it won't fail consistently would drive me up a wall!

Have you tried any other encoders, and had the same freezing occur?

  7. I didn't see any patches (I assume UMS/DC 6.5) that look like they'd help, either in the Ulead site or their FTP server. When UMS/DC freezes up, is your PC doing anything else, or does it just freeze without you going near it?
