I downloaded a video from Youtube that has subtitles. I have tried multiple programs to delete the subtitles but nothing works.
Question....is it possible to "cut out" / "crop" that bottom portion of video showing the subtitles? If this is a stupid question please forgive my ignorance, I am new at this and trying to learn. Thank you.

If you downloaded it from YouTube the subs are hardcoded and cannot be removed.
You can crop anything you want....

  3. Any video editor will let you crop away the bottom of the frame. Of course, that bottom part will be missing permanently.

  4. Were they hard-coded in YouTube? Sometimes you can turn them off and then capture.

  5. If there is another, lesser-quality version of the same material, you can download that and overlay the lousy quality version over the subs. I did that for a movie our neighbor had on DVD that was hard-coded with French subtitles. I also did the reverse for the same elderly couple: added subtitles from a lesser-quality online version to a foreign language VHS movie they wanted to watch which did not have subtitles.

  6. I've used the overlay technique to eliminate logos in the past. But it can be very hard to get the two videos to align properly and with the same brightness, contrast, colors, etc.

Try using VirtualDub2 and the delogo filter for infilling (blur), or crop filter to crop the frame, or the fill filter to overlay a black (or other color) box. The program is free and there are many guides (most guides are for the older VirtualDub but usage is pretty much the same).
