  1. I downloaded and installed Microsoft Media Encoder, at least I think that's what it's called. I'm at work and don't have it in front of me. Regardless... when I load the 100% standard VCD .MPG file to convert to .ASF, it says "Invalid Format". When I loaded my pure video .AVI file, it converted to .ASF perfectly.

I checked the guide here at vcdhelp.com and it shows how to convert MPG to DivX, and then DivX to ASF... but doesn't say anything about going directly from VCD to ASF.

Can someone help me go directly from a VCD .MPG to ASF without any extra conversions or whatnot? And I'd prefer to use Microsoft Media Encoder instead of Sonic Foundry's Stream Anywhere because you have to pay for that program.

  2. what you probally need to do is convert the VCD file to MPG, then convert the MPG file to AVI then convert avi to asf

  3. First of all... I have an .MPG. As stated in my subject line, I'm going from MPG to ASF. Second problem is... I understand how to go MPG --> AVI --> ASF, but that's a major hassle. Also, every time you do a conversion, you lose quality. I'm trying to preserve as much quality as possible, knowing ASF format doesn't give me much to work with.

Does anyone else know a way to go directly from MPG to ASF with Microsoft Media Encoder... without going to AVI in the middle? Also I know Stream Anywhere works, but I really want to work with Microsoft Media Encoder.

Also, why would Microsoft Media Encoder say a 100% VCD compliant MPG file is an "Invalid Format"?
