I have an avi file that looks like it wasn't captured quite nicely. The video plays fine on WMP, but not on the divx player. The video quality is kinda poor. You can see tiny purple boxes on the video, etc. It must have been captured from a VHS tape. What kind of methods can I use to eliminate these kinds of problems? What downloads do you recommend? Settings? Any sites that will guide me to a solution for cleaning up avi files?

If anyone else here asks the same question I did, you can even point out the answer to them by linking to this post. I'm sure it would really help a lot of people.

  4. It's good when you have a problem to list what kind of system you're running: processor speed, how much memory, what kind of capture card and program you're using to capture the video, etc. That being said, you could always close any programs that might be running in the background by going to start, run, and typing in msconfig (if you have an OS newer than Win98, that is). You can then deselect any programs that you don't want running in the background. Also, shut down all screensavers and desktop pictures you might have running---these eat up video memory. All of these things might be contributing to your problem. Also, lastly, check to see if your capture card is compatable with your editing/capture program.

That's not my problem. It doesn't matter what kind of computer I use. This file will always have blocks, and unsharp edges. That's what I need to fix. And I don't capture anything to begin with. This file was like it once I got it. I know there are filters/techniques to use to make a divx file look better. I need advice for those kind of things.
