i just bought a copied dvd ad the pciture was crap but the intresting thing was that it was obvisouly recored off another dvd cause the original dvd it came from had a menu on it which I could see the user choosing the options.well i think it was a badly downloaded divx which was then badly converted which is a shame as the original looked well and the menu was their and everything.why on earth was the quailty not better? I mean if the original dvd was their than the copy should look excellent.
Any idea of what happened here?

TCF released an AWESOME SVCD of the DVD Screener (i have a copy myself), that would be the one to get. Also, DVL released 2 DivX versions of the DVD (non-reencodes), one with 142kbps VBR MP3 and an internal with the 5+1 AC3 (i highly recommend that one for the PC use, especially just for the AC3).
For your DVD player get the TCF SVCD, and for the computer, try to find the DVL internal with AC3 (If only for the audio). Also, these movies are free if you know where to look, you shouldnt have to pay.

somebody, obvioulsy without a clue about video did it.
interlaced 29.97 was encoded as progresive 23.976 in such way that 25% of original material was disregarded = lost in the proces -> extremly jumpy motion when camera is paning !
there was no IVTC done to get progresive material and also no deinterlacing -> pause video, move frame by frame and you can see that interlaced frames are encoded as progresive.
just pathetic.
