  1. Afternoon All,

I'd value some advice on converting a music video from VOB format to MKV - Video conversion is fine and it goes from MP2 -> H.264 just fine but I am losing the soundtrack. The VOB plays fine in VLC before conversion. After conversion no soundtrack. I have tried both XMediaRecode and AviDemux, and am guessing its a matter of the right settings to use (or perhaps a different convertor). I want to have the best sound quality possible following the conversion.

Attached is the MediaInfo of the sound track.

    TIA
    Dave

Why transcode to AVC? You should be able to remux the MPEG2 stream. Have you tried Vob2Mpeg?

  3. Thanks for the below.

I've standardised on AVC for my entire collection as my server and all my players will support this format.

I've just tried VOB2MPG but it doesn't seem to like Windows 10, certainly not on my PC.

    Thanks
    Dave

VidCoder is what I primarily use for DVD/Blu-Ray conversions at present.
I use a CQ of 18.5 and constant framerate, Detelecine for default for both conversions.

Happy with the results. The BD filesizes are about 8 -15GB and the DVDs come out at about 2GB. AnyDVD used for decryption.
I convert to MKV H.264/AC3 audio.

I also use AVIDemux for some video file conversions.
It's a bit 'buggy' at times with large files, but generally performs well enough. I use the 64bit version as it seems more stable.
