I think u should dish out the one about the ps2....would be nice to be able to make a vcd(or whatever) that would play on one.
-
Unfortunatly with the PS2 this is more of a hardware issue then a software issue, I doubt any of us can do anything about it.

sefy its great to chat to you! Why isnt thid topic appearing in the latest posts?? I will probably have to move it to the dvd coversions or something. I will be making a non-standard for that ps2 idea at the minit but it should work all the same. It will have a res of 352x288 and should get about 140 mins to a cd! That means that almost any film willl fit on 1cd and will play with good quailty on a ps2!! Basically I am making a mini xdvd I put in the x as it isn't really a standard mini dvd eitheir!! I am really busy studying so it could take a while to complete the guides.
P.S. sefy can you move this thread to another place as I ain't getting put in the latest posts from here, how aboout the dvd coversions fouroum (advanced convrsion)

I would like a guide on how to get the best quality possible from a file that is is completely standard VCD and SVCD. In other words, how do you get the best quality possible when creating a VCD from some source that sticks to the standard bit rate and resolutions, etc.
Everything I see seems to be revolved around getting the most movie on a single Disc, or improving quality by going non-standard.
I like to make movies that I can give to others (such as home movies, etc.) But, to be sure that they can be viewable on as many DVD players as possible, I want to stick entirely to the standards. -
Thanks for that tip, my dvdx + panasonic is in the guides section for vcd so that covered. And dvd2svcd will do the best svcd quilty picture and sound u ever seen, i have mad somerips which it is hard to tell the difference between the svcd and the actuall dvd

I would like an easier guide on ripping Dvds and burning it to a dvd-r. I have looked at tons of guides and they all say something different on the same topic.

I would like to see a guide for converting different crap encodes from the net - divx, wmf, avi, etc. to a good standard format for editing in the AVI editors on the market (like Pinnacle Studio 7).
Also a guide on converting 23.976 fps video to 29.97 fps video (best method I have been told: use TMPGenc! Load up a template like NTSC video 29.97, then go to File - Save - Save as AVI (the buttons to choose codec are not showing well on my machine but barely there). -
Well, atleast you getting some responses

I have edited my guides a small bit (due to demands!)
guides so far:
dvd 2 svcd
dvd 2 vcd
dvd 2 ps2vd
Crap input 2 svcd/vcd (this will also be used for digital capture to svcd as its the same thing)
dvd 9 2 dvd-r (possibly)
The playstation 2 vcd is proving to be hard!!! The real problem is getting it to be compiant and fit on one cd.

Hi, thanks for writing a guide. As I have seen differnt guides and they use zillion differnt programs to produce one SVCD or VCD. I would like, if possible, a guide which uses only one program or two at the most, such as Premiere 6, Ulead MediaStudio Pro 6.5 or Vegas Video 3 that would be great. So, different people can use the guide depending on what software they have. Since I am new to this and I get confuse when they use different programs for capturing, editing, frameserving, exporting, encoding and burning. Thanks

baker:
Your guide doesn't cover anything but conversion from DVD. I don't do anything with DVDs (except play the ones I rent or buy in my DVD player). I'm not talking about conversion from DVD...but what SPECIFICALLY must I do to get the best quality VCD from another source (AVI, etc.) -
How about a guide that deals with DVD to DVD-r, when the source is greater than 4.7Gb and you wish the end result to fit on one DVD-r:
case 1 where you transcode to reduce file size
case 2 where you strip unneeded audio tracks, etc. to reduce size
How about a once and for all road map for TMPGEnc after ripping and frameserving a 16:9 aspect ratio, 4:3 aspect ratio, and a 4:3 aspect ratio as reported by DVD2AVI when the picture is obviously widescreen. This should include both progressive and interlaced DVD's and while I only use NTSC, probably the PAL guys would like it too.
How about a guide that presents options based on the movie content. For example a drama where there is little action (lower bitrate and perhaps motion precision in order to save transcode time), a sci-fi with a lot of action (sacrifice time in order to get better final results by increasing bit rate), etc.
A monumental task, my friend, GOOD LUCK -
Thanks for the responses! Currently my situation is this:
for any guides that involve dvd 2 anything I will be using dvdx v1.6 . Dvdx is the best freeware tool and is easy to use. I choose v1.6 as it is the most compatible less likely to crash version.
The only thing I will not be using dvdx for is my svcd guide. I feel i cannot better the picture and sound standards set by dvd 2 svcd so won't bother trying. I will give a guide on how to get the best out of dvd2svcd v1.08 and some of its extra features.
For vcd encooding I will be using panasonic and or/ tmpegenc. Panasonic is my first coice but I may also have a tmpegenc guide.
As for rbruner2:
What the hell are you on about! Did u not read my guides list!!!
@ Chips144
The dvd 2 dvd-r guides are very very unstable at the moment. I will probably only have a re-encoding guide as I want to make my guides as simple as possible, also I don't think there is anybody out there who wouldn't agree that they would rather a set method for them selves whcich is the same for every dvd and they don't have to go check sizies bitrates etc...
so guides so far::
dvd 2 svcd
dvd 2 vcd
dvd 2 ps2vd
vdub with filters 2 svcd/vcd
dvd 2 dvd-r (possibly)
The playstation 2 vcd is proving to be hard!!! The real problem is getting it to be compiant and fit on one cd. If anyone has any tips or anybeter dvd authoring tools then the one i have give me a bell.

Just to let every one know... the Great DVD2SVCD will do DVD2VCD in the next version!
I'm playin around with the beta version and encoding with TMPGenc 2.53.35.130 MPEG-1 CBR as low as 770 and I'm surprised at the quality!
I have been playin with GOP, Matrices, AVS editing with Temporal Smoothing, resize methods and other things. Of course it may be some time before DVD2SVCD has the bugs worked out... but it sure is looking good so far!
@ baker ...sorry no suggestions for the guides.Keep up the Great work!
Peace,
IgGy
Just to let everyone know... the only professional VCD I even own is Star Wars Box set... and its PAL so I can't even watch it on my TV ...but I can say that the VCD I'm making now... may be better than anything I've made in the past and much better than the crap that is on these Star Wars VCD! (At least on the computer) -
IGuaNAdoN said it perfectly. I wanted you Sefy or possibly baker to (if you wanted of course) help beta test dvd2svcd the (dvd to vcd portion) and give your valuable input. Obviously include a guide if you deemed it approriate into one of your guides of dvd2svcd (dvd to vcd portion).

Baker:
I don't see anything on your guides list about converting from an AVI to VCD in the best quality possible. I'm merely making a suggestion! -
mrbass, i've recieved permission from the author, and I will start beta testing and writing a guide for the DVD2SVCD and incurporate it into the DVD Backup 2.0 demonstrating the VCD capabilities of it.
I just hope you guys reliase you can use the guide even for SVCD, you just need to change the settingsEmail me for faster replies!
